A few weeks ago, I was sharing with a Psychologist colleague some feelings of deep emotional pain that I’d been experiencing.
I was surprised when he came back with a comment about this being ‘just a set of circumstances and these just a set of feelings’ – and something about my feelings being ‘not the truth on an esoteric level’.
What I say to this is: Get real, not esoteric!
FEELINGS ARE IMPORTANT and they’re very true on an emotional & spiritual level.
As a Coach, I know that each one of us can change the way we feel about most things by choice and almost instantly – we can choose to let go of old, negative feelings and replace them with shiny, new, positive ones .

It’s curious, isn’t it, that a lot of people seem to expect those of us in caring, ’sorted’ professions to be like Mary Poppins – practically perfect in every way!
Before a talk I was giving at a women’s event recently, I mentioned to one of the organisers that I was feeling a little nervous. As her face drained of colour and she dropped into the nearest chair in total, faint-inducing shock, she said, ‘You’re a Coach- you can’t be nervous!’.
Poor woman; I think she’d desperately wanted me to have a halo, levitate and gracefully impart to the audience the answer to life, the universe and everything – and I fell just ever so slightly short of that at the time (although, of course, I’m working on it as we speak).
