10 Top Tips for a BIG, Fabulous, Dream Life!

Saturday, May 22nd, 2010

When people ask me the secret to achieving the dream life that I live and talk about – and which I believe is absolutely achievable for anyone – these are the top 10 tips I share with them:

1.  Be thankful for what is, just as it is

This can be a challenging one, sometimes, depending on what’s happening in our life.  But, whatever’s happening, it’s important to understand that there’s always some part of it to be thankful for.  We can choose to live with an attitude of gratitude, rather than one of bitterness, anger, negativity or sadness.  We can choose to focus on the good things we  have in our lives, rather than what we perceive we don’t have.  The more we focus on the good things, the more good things we attract.

Why not keep a Gratitude Journal?  Write in it, at least twice a week, the things you’re thankful for – little things and big things.  I guarantee that when you do this, your whole perspective on your life will start to change.

2.  Take responsibility for your life

It’s important to understand, and take ownership of, the fact that where we are in our lives is the result of decisions and choices we’ve made along the way.  Okay, so life often throws us curve balls (and I’ve had plenty of those!), that we have little or no control over, but it’s what we decide to do with the ball once we’ve caught it that makes the difference between a life that simply drifts along, apparently prey to happenstance, and a life where we’re in control of what happens next. What is it to be ‘Authentic’?

Tuesday, April 27th, 2010

A year ago, I was at a gathering of Bristol business women where Katie Hopkins (of ‘The Apprentice’ notoriety) was the keynote speaker.

After introducing herself, Katie turned to me, in front of the 40 other women present, and said – ‘You are totally authentic – I know who you are and what you stand for; because of that, I would work with you.’

It was a bit of a shock, to be honest.  Firstly, because she’d singled me out of a room full of women as being the only one who came across as truly ‘authentic’ and, secondly, because when I’d talked to the assembly, it was about the fact that although my business had started out as one thing, I was in the process of transitioning to something different; something bigger and more specific – the mission that I felt called to undertake.  And I’d stumbled over my words, because of nerves. Feelings Are There to be Felt!

Friday, April 9th, 2010

A few weeks ago, I was sharing with a Psychologist colleague some feelings of deep emotional pain that I’d been experiencing.

I was surprised when he came back with a comment about this being ‘just a set of circumstances and these just a set of feelings’ – and something about my feelings being ‘not the truth on an esoteric level’.

What I say to this is: Get real, not esoteric!

FEELINGS ARE IMPORTANT and they’re very true on an emotional & spiritual level.

As a Coach, I know that each one of us can change the way we feel about most things by choice and almost instantly – we can choose to let go of old, negative feelings and replace them with shiny, new, positive ones .

Perfect Imperfection

Wednesday, February 24th, 2010

It’s curious, isn’t it, that a lot of people seem to expect those of us in caring, ’sorted’ professions to be like Mary Poppins – practically perfect in every way!

Before a talk I was giving at a women’s event recently, I mentioned to one of the organisers that I was feeling a little nervous.  As her face drained of colour and she dropped into the nearest chair in total, faint-inducing shock, she said, ‘You’re a Coach- you can’t be nervous!’.

Poor woman; I think she’d desperately wanted me to have a halo, levitate and gracefully impart to the audience the answer to life, the universe and everything – and I fell just ever so slightly short of that at the time (although, of course, I’m working on it as we speak).
